Course Information
Description	This course examines the establishment, role and function of police in a democratic society. It will focus on types of police agencies and their organizational structure, police-community interaction, police ethics, and use of authority.
Prerequisites	None.
Learning Outcomes	Course Student Learning Outcomes: PSLO Alpha measured by pretest/posttest All other PSLO's measured by embedded test questions and online discussion board questions. 1. Describe the American Judicial Systems (civil, criminal, juvenile), their jurisdiction, development, and structure (PSLO 1, 2, 5 Alpha) 2. Analyze the function and dynamics of the court room working group (PSLO 1, 2, 5 Alpha) 3. Identify the judicial processes from pretrial to appeal (PSLO 1, 2, 5 Alpha) 4. Describe the significant Constitutional Amendments, doctrines, and other sources of law in the American Judicial System (PSLO 3, 2)

Course Policies
Instructor Policies	The best way to reach me is via email. If you need to discuss grades, please make an appointment to see me at my office or via phone.
Attendance Policy	Regular attendance is required. As this is an online class, weekly log in to the course is required. A student who does not log in for 4 consecutive weeks will have a VERY difficult time catching up and being successful in this class. Make a schedule and stick to it!
Academic Honesty	Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
Facility Policies	No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.

If you have an emergency during a test (BB glitches, internet goes down, etc.) you can TEXT me at 409-718-8613 (between 8AM and 7PM, NO EARLIER OR LATER!). I will not discuss your grades over the phone or by email. If you want to discuss your grades, you must make an appointment and we will meet via ZOOM or you can come to campus if you are comfortable doing that.
